Hon. Dr Henry Musa Kpaka, Sierra Leone’s Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, has joined other agriculture ministers in signing on to a regional initiative to create green jobs for youth in resilient agrifood systems.
The US$5.8 million Green Jobs for Youth in Resilient Agrifood Systems Project, GCP/SFW/013/ROK, is funded by a grant from the Government of the Republic of Korea. The signing took place in Rome, Italy, on Thursday, 15 October 2026.
In Sierra Leone, activities will be carried out in Bo, Bombali, Kambia and Kono districts, with technical assistance from the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations.
The project aims to improve employment opportunities by equipping young women and men with practical, modern skills for work in the agrifood sector. It will support green and digital jobs, as well as youth-led cooperatives and micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs).
The initiative is consistent with the Sierra Leone government’s Feed Salone transformation agenda, which seeks to boost agricultural productivity, improve food security, attract private-sector investment, and create long-term economic opportunities for young people.
The project aims to improve livelihoods across the agricultural value chain by building skills and supporting entrepreneurs, while boosting youth engagement in resilient agrifood systems. The work is expected to have lasting local benefits.
