In a recent meeting between officials from Saudi Arabia’s General Authority for Military Industries (GAMI) and Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Defence, both parties expressed their commitment to fostering international partnerships in the defence and security industry. This collaboration aligns with Saudi Arabia’s vision for technology transfer and skills development, ultimately enhancing the Kingdom’s strategic independence and supporting the ambitious goals of Vision 2030.

Governor Al-Ohali of GAMI highlighted the advancements made in localizing defence expenditure, noting that localization rates had increased from 4% to 13.6% by the end of 2022. He revealed that 477 foundational permits and licenses had been issued for 265 companies operating in the defence industries sector, with over 74 investment opportunities provided for supply chain localization.

The Governor projected that the sector’s contribution to the GDP is expected to reach approximately 93.75 billion Saudi Arabian Riyals by 2030, creating an estimated total of 40,000 direct and 60,000 indirect job opportunities. This growth signifies the significant impact of the defence industry on economic development and job creation in Saudi Arabia.

On the other hand, Sierra Leone’s Deputy Minister of Defence, Colonel (Retired) Muana Brima Massaquoi, expressed optimism about continuing collaboration with GAMI Saudi Arabia for mutual interests in defence and global security issues. He was accompanied by Colonel Alimamy Taylor-Kamara, the Director of Defence Information and Communication at the Ministry of Defence.

The discussions between the two parties focused on exploring opportunities for partnership and cooperation in the defence and security sector. Both Saudi Arabia and Sierra Leone recognize the importance of working together to address common challenges and achieve shared objectives in the realm of defence and security.

As both countries strive to enhance their defence capabilities and strengthen their security infrastructure, collaboration with international partners like GAMI, and Saudi Arabia, becomes crucial. By leveraging each other’s expertise, resources, and technologies, Saudi Arabia and Sierra Leone can enhance their defence capabilities, promote regional stability, and contribute to global security efforts.

Overall, the partnership between Saudi Arabia and Sierra Leone in the defence and security industry holds great promise for both countries. Through collaboration and mutual support, they can achieve their respective goals of advancing their defence industries, creating job opportunities, and contributing to regional and global security. This partnership exemplifies the importance of international cooperation in addressing common security challenges and fostering peace and stability worldwide.
