Shelter Afrique Development Bank (ShafDB) has unveiled a refreshed brand identity, including a new logo, marking a significant step forward in its transformation into a fully-fledged Multilateral Development Bank focused on accelerating housing and urban development across Africa. The new visual identity was revealed at the Bank’s 45th Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Rabat, Morocco, which was presided over by Morocco’s Minister of Economy and Finance, Ms Nadia Fettah.
The rebrand is presented as more than a cosmetic change. According to Thierno-Habib Hann, Managing Director and CEO of Shelter Afrique Development Bank, the new identity reflects a larger institutional transformation: “Rebranding is more than just a name change. The goal is to transform the institution’s operational framework and expand its role as a development bank. This transition increases the institution’s agility and impact across the entire housing value chain. The move is part of a larger strategic shift aimed at broadening the Bank’s financing portfolio and strengthening its impact on affordable housing and sustainable urban development.
Shelter Afrique, which has 44 African member countries, has been working on a long-term transformation agenda to enable the Bank to better respond to the continent’s pressing housing challenges through innovative financing solutions and strategic partnerships. The institution’s transformation into a Multilateral Development Bank is intended to strengthen its ability to mobilise capital for large-scale, transformative projects and place it alongside Africa’s leading development finance institutions.

H.E. Lionel Zinsou, Chairman of Shelter Afrique Development Bank, emphasised that the Bank’s success would not be measured by strategies adopted, policies approved, or meetings held. It will be measured in terms of home financing, city improvement, job creation, and life transformation. The institution’s reform phase must now transition to the delivery phase. That delivery-focused mandate underpins ShafDB’s ambition to play a leading role in addressing Africa’s estimated housing deficit of more than 53 million units, which will require approximately US$1.3 trillion in financing.
The rebranding coincides with a renewed collaboration among African multilateral development institutions looking to mobilise capital and drive sustainable development impact. ShafDB’s new brand identity is intended to reflect a renewed ambition and commitment to financing inclusive, resilient, and green urban growth that generates jobs and improves livelihoods across the continent.
The new identity was unveiled as part of the AGM’s broader theme, “The Future of Cities: Financing Inclusive, Green, and Resilient Urban Development,” which brought together experts and stakeholders from housing, finance, infrastructure, and urban planning to discuss solutions to Africa’s rapid urbanisation. Shelter Afrique Development Bank has signalled its intent to be a central financier and partner as African countries chart their development trajectories in the coming years, mobilising resources, fostering partnerships, and delivering innovative financing solutions to support affordable housing and sustainable urbanisation.
