Mr Shadi Gerjawi, CEO of Africell Sierra Leone, officially commissioned the newly renovated Bo Clock Tower in a ceremony held in Bo earlier today, highlighting the company’s ongoing investment in community development and the preservation of cultural landmarks. The event drew local officials, community stakeholders, and a large crowd of residents to witness the unveiling of the restored city icon.
The Bo Clock Tower, long regarded as a symbol of Bo’s identity and history, underwent extensive renovations to preserve and extend its legacy for future generations. Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Gerjawi stated that the project reflected Africell’s broader vision of contributing to national development beyond its role as a telecommunications company. “This project demonstrates our commitment to the people of Sierra Leone that goes beyond connectivity. We believe in funding initiatives that honour the country’s rich history and strengthen community identity,” he stated.
Mayor Kobba Musa of Bo City Council attended the commissioning and thanked Africell Sierra Leone for its ongoing support for infrastructure and community development. The Mayor praised the initiative and described Africell as a reliable partner in local development, highlighting the company’s consistent efforts to improve connectivity while supporting projects that preserve and enhance community heritage. “Africell is a serious network,” he said, expressing gratitude for the company’s contributions.
Residents of Bo expressed gratitude for the renovated clock tower, saying it restores pride in one of the city’s most recognisable landmarks. Many attendees described the renovation as timely and impactful, particularly as the city strives to balance modernisation with the preservation of its historical identity.
The restoration of the Bo Clock Tower is part of Africell Sierra Leone’s larger corporate social responsibility program, which focuses on community empowerment, infrastructure development, and cultural preservation throughout the country. With today’s successful commissioning, Africell strengthens its position as more than just a connectivity provider, presenting itself as a dedicated partner in Sierra Leone’s social and cultural advancement, as well as a supporter of initiatives that celebrate and protect the country’s heritage.
