Minister of Employment, Labour, and Social Security, Mohamed Rahman Swaray, has joined colleague Labour Ministers in Baku in a 3-day session to discuss innovative solutions and digitalization of labour and employment services in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states.

The sessions are held on the 21st-23rd of November 2023 in Baku. The three-day conference is organized by the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of Population of the Republic of Azerbaijan, in collaboration with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). This three-day session will cover OIC programs on labour, employment, and social protection, as well as the exchange of views on emerging challenges affecting workers and labour markets in the OIC States. Minister Swaray’s attendance will advance the collective effort towards addressing the common challenges faced by OIC member States in promoting inclusive and sustainable economic growth, through employment and social protection.

Minister Swaray will continue to hold several bilateral engagements with other OIC Member States to discuss and promote issues such as labour employment promotion for decent work, social protection, capacity building, and training, among others. This Conference is in line with the vision of His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio, who intends to not only create 500,000 jobs for citizens but also provide an environment that is conducive for workers and employees. Minister Swaray will advance this vision to the OIC Member States and tap into opportunities that will be implemented back home.

During the span of the 3-day conference, there will be a provisional opening of the OIC Labour and Employment Center. This Center was the initiative of the President of Azerbaijan in 2013 at the 2nd Session of the Islamic Conference of Labour Ministers and has its headquarters in Baku. This idea was unanimously supported by OIC Member States and a Statute was approved by Members. Sierra Leone is expected to sign and ratify the provided statute soon. The Center will be the center of training, and capacity building, and generally serve as a hub for OIC member states for all issues relating to its focus.
