On March 18, Ms KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who is visiting New York, U.S.A. to participate in the Ministerial Meeting of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), received a courtesy call from Hon. Mrs Francess Piagie ALGHALI, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Sierra Leone. The overview of the meeting is as follows.

At the outset, Minister Kamikawa expressed her appreciation to Deputy Minister Alghali for her attendance at the meeting and her expectation for cooperation from Sierra Leone in achieving a “world without nuclear weapons.” Minister Kamikawa and Deputy Minister Alghali also commit to work together in the international arena as non-permanent members of the Security Council, and to promote the WPS, referring to General Assembly Resolution 304, which was adopted by the two countries. Deputy Minister Alghali expressed her wish to communicate at TICAD on Sierra Leone’s and the World Bank’s efforts to prevent and address gender-based violence. Minister Kamikawa explained the situation in North Korea, including the recent ballistic missile launched by North Korea. The two agreed to work together at the Security Council and others in responding to various international issues. Both sides also confirmed that Japan and Sierra Leone, the Presidency of the African Union (AU) Committee of Ten (C-10), further cooperate in strengthening the functions of the UN, including Security Council reform.

Deputy Minister Alghali expressed her expectations for Japan’s further trade and investment. Both sides then committed to cooperate for the TICAD Ministerial Meeting this year and TICAD 9 next year, and to work together to further develop bilateral relations.
