Popular businessman and renowned football administrator, Umaru Bah, officially took up his new role as Team Manager of Sierra Leone’s national senior men’s football team, Leone Stars, on Thursday, September 26.

Bah was formally introduced to the squad by the Acting General Secretary of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), Mohamed Benson Bawoh, during training with home-based players, which marked the beginning of a new chapter for the team.

Bah’s appointment comes at a pivotal time, as the country prepares for crucial qualification matches in both continental and global competitions. The new manager, known for his hands-on approach and keen understanding of football administration, has pledged to usher in significant changes that will strengthen the Leone Stars. Speaking to the players and members of the press, Bah expressed determination to transform the management and operations of the team.

“This is a moment for change, and I am here to ensure that we take Leone Stars to a new level. Our aim is not only to qualify for major tournaments but to become a force to be reckoned with in African and international football,” Bah said.

Bah’s appointment is part of a broader strategy by the SLFA to bring fresh energy into the team’s management, with a focus on creating a more professional and competitive environment. His experience in football management is seen as a key asset in helping the team meet its long-term objectives, particularly as Sierra Leone eyes qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and yo features in the 2026 FIFA World Cup tournaments. During the introduction, Acting General Secretary, Mohamed Benson Bawoh, expressed confidence in Bah’s leadership.

“We believe in Bah’s vision and his ability to make the changes that the Leone Stars need. This is a new era, and we are optimistic that his leadership will play a significant role in bringing success to the team,” Bawoh stated. Bah’s immediate tasks include overseeing preparations for upcoming qualifying matches and implementing new strategies that will enhance team performance. His emphasis on teamwork, discipline, and innovation is expected to create a winning culture within the squad.

Fans and football stakeholders have expressed optimism about Bah’s leadership, hoping that his tenure will mark a turnaround for the national team, which has faced challenges in recent years in maintaining consistency on the international stage. As Bah settles into his new role, the nation looks forward to witnessing the impact of his leadership and the much-anticipated transformation of the Leone Stars, as they prepare for future competitions.
