Sources have confirmed that the government of Sierra Leone owes the Turkish Karpowership huge sums of money. It is sad to note that the Ministry of Information is playing damage control by debunking the news in their weekly briefing.

After thorough investigations into the issue, this medium can confirm that the government of Sierra Leone owes Karpowership tens of millions of USD. Furthermore, this medium has learnt that the government, through the Ministry of Finance, is not committed to paying these arrears.

A Social Development Expert believes that if the government fails to honour the payment of these arrears, Freetown will be one of the darkest cities in Africa, which will not attract investors and investment. He added that electricity is a driving force to attract investors. Also, Citizens who are currently experiencing the powder outage have appealed to the government to honour the payment of the said arrears, noting that, they do not want to return to the old means of powering their house with the help of ‘Kabba Tiger’.***
