On Thursday, His Excellency President Dr Julius Maada Bio paid a courtesy call to Archbishop Nicolas Duncan-Williams, the renowned Ghanaian religious leader and Founder and General Overseer of Action Chapel International, at State House in Freetown. Archbishop Duncan-Williams is in Sierra Leone from March 5-7 to lead a three-day national revival crusade for his “Global Prayer Works” initiative, whose theme this year is “Breakthrough Unseen Barriers.”
Introducing the delegation, Akintayo Sam Jolly, President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Sierra Leone, thanked President Bio for granting the audience and expressed gratitude for the respect and cooperation that religious leaders have received under the current administration. Mr Jolly’s remarks highlighted the close working relationship between the country’s faith leaders and government officials.
In his speech, Archbishop Duncan-Williams reflected on his longstanding friendship with President Bio and described the visit as part of a larger global prayer mission focused on Africa. He emphasised the importance of prayer in sustaining peace and prosperity, and explained that his delegation had come specifically to pray for Sierra Leone, its leadership, and people. The Archbishop also sent greetings from Ghana’s President, H.E. John Dramani Mahama.
President Bio greeted the Archbishop and his delegation, emphasising the importance of spiritual guidance in national leadership. He reaffirmed Sierra Leone’s religious tolerance and his government’s commitment to human capital development, describing the country’s population as its most valuable asset. The President concluded by asking for continued prayers for the country and for greater international unity and peace.
The State House meeting set the tone for the national revival crusade, which aims to mobilise spiritual support for national development and social cohesion during the three-day “Global Prayer Works” event.
