Vice President-1 of the Sierra Leone Football Association, Harold Nat-Johnson, recently announced the successful launch of a new youth development program, aimed at fostering grassroots talent in the country. In a ceremony attended by various stakeholders including the Minister of Sports and the Acting General Secretary of the SLFA, the program was hailed as a significant step towards the growth and sustainability of football in Sierra Leone.

The initiative, which saw the training of 50 Physical Education Teachers from across the country, is set to benefit school children through a comprehensive football program designed to nurture young talents. As part of FIFA’s support, over 10,000 standard footballs will be distributed to schools nationwide to ensure the continuity of the program.

In his address, Vice President Nat-Johnson emphasized the importance of grassroots development in building strong national teams. He lauded the efforts of all involved in making the program a reality and expressed optimism for the future of football in Sierra Leone.

Lead facilitator, Antonio B. Sanchez, expressed gratitude to the SLFA, Ministry of Sports, Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, and National Sports Authority for their unwavering support. He commended the participants for their dedication to the training and highlighted the importance of monitoring and evaluation through a mobile application system.

The program aims to not only coach school children but also empower PE Teachers to train others in their regions and districts, creating a ripple effect of football development across the country. With the launch of this groundbreaking initiative, the SLFA is paving the way for a brighter future for football in Sierra Leone.

Overall, the event marked a significant milestone in the efforts to harness and develop young football talents in Sierra Leone, setting the stage for a promising future for the sport in the country.
