Sierra Leone Delegation with Karpowership group
Last week, Chief Minister Dr David Moinina Sengeh travelled to Turkey with a delegation to discuss the terms of the current contract with Zeynep Harezi, CEO and CCO of Karpowership Group.
The Turkish ship that powers the city is owed millions of US dollars by the government of Sierra Leone. Following the resignation of Alhaji Kanja Sesay, the Minister of Energy, the government gave Karpowership $17 million after a week-long blackout in the city of Freetown.
Dr. Sengeh reiterated the government of Sierra Leone’s pledge to always keep the lights on for its people. This commitment entails financial investments in the grid network, dispatch profile, and government reforms in Sierra Leone (GoSL). The talks with the CEO of Karpowership Group were essential to guaranteeing the nation’s uninterrupted supply of electricity.
The government understands the significance of a consistent electricity supply for the advancement of the economy, healthcare, education, and general well-being of its people.
The government’s willingness to put the needs of the people first and make the necessary investments in infrastructure to keep the lights on was demonstrated by the $17 million payment. The delegation’s visit to Turkey was a proactive step in ensuring that the contract with Karpowership Group was favourable to the interests of Sierra Leone and its citizens.
To ensure that the people of Sierra Leone have a steady and sustainable supply of electricity, Karpowership Group is still dedicated to collaborating with the government during the ongoing negotiations. The future looks bright as efforts are being made to improve the energy sector and ensure that blackouts are minimized or eliminated.
