Koidu City, Kono District, May, 2026 — President Dr Julius Maada Bio and First Lady Dr Fatima Maada Bio officially opened the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) district office in Kono today, naming it Amina Maada Bio Hall. The ceremony drew party executives, traditional leaders, organised youth and women’s groups, and hundreds of members and supporters from across the district, transforming it into a significant demonstration of political solidarity and grassroots mobilisation.
Speaking to the crowd, President Bio described the new office as a physical and symbolic consolidation of the SLPP’s presence in Kono. He described the hall as “more than a building,” and stated that it will serve as a strategic hub for party coordination, mobilisation, and community engagement throughout the district. He urged members to maintain unity, discipline, and loyalty, arguing that these qualities have long contributed to the party’s success and close ties with ordinary people.
The President used the platform to encourage party members to put the SLPP’s and the country’s collective interests ahead of personal ambitions. He urged party members with flagbearer ambitions to stay focused on consolidating government achievements rather than pursuing divisive personal goals. According to his remarks, the most meaningful way to advance collective ambitions is to keep promises to the people, work hard, and continue to serve communities.
President Bio also publicly praised the First Lady for her leadership in overseeing the construction of the party office, highlighting her contribution to strengthening the party’s infrastructure in Kono. The hall was named after Amina Maada Bio to honour the First Lady’s leadership and dedication to party development.
Dr Fatima Maada Bio, the First Lady, also addressed the gathering, praising Kono supporters for their loyalty and dedication to the SLPP. She called for continued peace, unity, and commitment to the party’s vision, and she specifically encouraged women and young people to stay active and united in efforts to advance the party’s growth and local community stability.
Also speaking at the commissioning, SLPP National Chairman Jimmy Batilo Songa thanked the President for what he described as transformational development projects in Kono District. He cited recent investments, such as the construction of a modern hospital and a new university campus, as evidence that Kono is becoming a popular destination for both Sierra Leoneans and international visitors.
The inauguration ended with party leaders and supporters renewing their calls for unity and solidarity. Participants reaffirmed their commitment to increasing the SLPP’s influence in Kono District and throughout Sierra Leone, promising continued grassroots mobilisation and engagement as the party prepares for future national contests.
