The Sierra Leone Maritime Administration (SLMA) proudly announces the commencement of its first seafarer’s training program since 1975.
This historic initiative marks a significant milestone in our nation’s maritime industry and underscores our commitment to fostering excellence in marine education and training. To revitalise Sierra Leone’s naval workforce and elevate standards within the industry, the seafarer’s training program will equip aspiring seafarers with the essential skills, knowledge, and certifications required to excel in the global maritime sector. Participants will undergo comprehensive training in various maritime disciplines, including navigation, seamanship, safety protocols, and maritime law.
The launch of this training program reflects SLMA’s dedication to empowering Sierra Leoneans to pursue rewarding careers at sea while contributing to the growth and development of our maritime economy. By investing in our seafarers’ education and professional development, we aim to strengthen Sierra Leone’s position as a reputable maritime nation on the international stage. “Commencing the seafarers training program marks a significant step forward for the Sierra Leone Maritime Administration,” said Mr Paul Sobba Massaquoi, Executive Director of SLMA.
“We are committed to providing world-class training opportunities for our seafarers, empowering them to compete globally and contribute to the sustainable growth of our maritime industry.” The training program will be conducted with leading maritime training institutions and industry partners, ensuring participants receive the highest quality education and practical experience. Upon completing the program, graduates will be well-prepared to embark on fulfilling careers at sea, serving onboard merchant vessels, cruise ships, and offshore platforms.
