Sierra Leone has officially inaugurated its new embassy in Doha, Qatar. The ceremony was presided over by Alhaji Musa Timothy Kabba, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, who represented His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio at the event.
Minister Kabba emphasised Sierra Leone and Qatar’s long-standing and friendly diplomatic relations, saying that the embassy’s opening marks a new chapter in their bilateral interactions.
He was optimistic that this development would improve cooperation in key sectors such as agriculture, tourism, fisheries, and construction.
“This new impetus will broaden the bilateral agenda between our two sisterly states,” he added.
During his speech, Kabba expressed gratitude to the Qatari government and people for their support of Sierra Leone’s recent bid for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council in June 2023. He emphasised the significance of Sierra Leone’s presence in the Council, particularly in advocating for global justice.
The Minister also recognised Qatar’s critical role in mediating Middle Eastern peace talks, particularly between Israel and Palestine, emphasising the importance of upholding humanitarian values amid global turmoil. Kabba spoke with a diverse group of Sierra Leoneans living in Qatar who expressed gratitude for the embassy’s efforts to advocate for their interests.
Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to Qatar, HE Fadlu-Deen, also thanked the Qatari government for its warm reception and ongoing support of the newly established mission, indicating a bright future for Sierra Leone’s diplomatic presence in the region.
