The National Cycling Association team from Sierra Leone has made it safely to Ghana for the 13th African Games. On Wednesday, the team departed from Freetown International Airport and touched down in Accra a few hours later.
The nation’s capital, Accra, will host the Games. Ten to fifteen days of thrilling brain and body competitions between 5,000 top athletes and coaches from fifty-five African nations in twenty-nine chosen sports codes will take place during the 13th edition of the African Games. With a TV and internet viewership of over 5.5 billion, the event will also feature over 3000 technical officers, journalists, and international celebrities. The 13th African Games will serve as an official qualifying event for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
Using sport to further national and continental development goals, as well as to support Ghana’s transformational agenda and the African Union’s Agenda 2063: “Africa We Want,” is the primary goal of hosting and organising the 13th African Games in Accra in 2023.
Ghana will host the 13th African Games from March 8–23, 2024.
The fact that the games will be held in three different cities within the host nation marks the second time in history that the event will be decentralised. The three cities selected for these roles are Cape Coast, Kumasi, and Accra.
