Senior police leaders from Sierra Leone and Liberia meet to enhance cross-border security cooperation

Tuesday, November 18th 2025 — Sierra Leone’s Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Alpha Sesay, welcomed the Inspector General of the Liberia National Police, Hon. Gregory O. W. Coleman, for a high-level security engagement aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two countries. Inspector General Coleman led a senior Liberian delegation that met with Sierra Leone’s top police officials, including Inspector General of Police William Fayia Sellu and Assistant Inspector Generals Sylvester Koroma and Senesie.
The discussions centred on strengthening operational ties across the shared frontier, with a particular emphasis on coordinated joint operations, improved intelligence and information sharing, and faster, more effective responses to cross-border security threats.
Both delegations emphasised the strategic importance of aligned security strategies within the Mano River Union framework in addressing evolving regional challenges and ensuring peace and stability.
Attorney General Sesay welcomed the Liberian delegation and emphasised Sierra Leone’s commitment to ongoing collaboration with Liberia to support law enforcement and public safety in the subregion. During the meeting, he briefed Inspector General Coleman on the ongoing review of the Sierra Leone Police Forces Act of 1964. The proposed legislative revisions include a formal renaming to the “Sierra Leone Police Services,” which is being considered as part of the larger constitutional review process.
The courtesy visit is part of a four-day exchange program between the Liberia National Police and the Sierra Leone Police leadership. According to officials, the visit aims to strengthen institutional ties, refine joint operational mechanisms, and lay the groundwork for closer collaboration in combating crime and transnational threats along the two countries’ borders.
