Parliament Gives Green Light To 2024 National Budget

The Parliament of Sierra Leone on Tuesday,19/12/2023, approved the Bill entitled, “The Appropriation Act, 2024”, (National Budget) for the services and development of Sierra Leone. 

It could be recalled that the budget was presented to Parliament by the Minister of Finance, Sheku Ahmed Fantamadi Bangura, on Friday 10/11/2023 in the Chamber of Parliament, Tower Hill, Freetown, on the theme: “Restoring Macroeconomic Stability, While Protecting the Poor and the Vulnerable”. The Bill seeks to authorise expenditure from the consolidated fund for the services of Sierra Leone for the year 2024 and other related matters. The total budget approved for the fiscal year, 2024 amounts to, Twenty-One Billion Four Hundred and Sixty-Two Million, Seven Hundred and Sixty-Seven Thousand Eight Hundred Leones. The Appropriation Act, of 2024 went through several Parliamentary stages and amendments before it was approved by the Parliament of Sierra Leone. 

However, several recommendations were made by the Chairpersons of the Committees of Supplies for additional budgetary allocations to some MDAs to enable them to fulfil their planned activities for the services of the nation. The Minister of Finance, Sheku Fantamadi Bangura, piloted the 2024 National Budget before it was approved by Parliament.
