On March 21, 2025, the University of Management and Technology (UNIMTECH) hosted a significant event: the official launch of the Old Prince Waleans Association (OPWA) UNIMTECH Chapter. This was more than just a formal gathering; it marked the formation of a fully operational alumni association, with OPWA UNIMTECH becoming the first officially launched alumni chapter on the UNIMTECH campus. The launch is especially significant because it comes just before The Prince of Wales School’s centenary celebration, a prestigious institution that has spent the last century fostering educational excellence and shaping the lives of countless students.
The launch event was a lively celebration marked by a sense of unity and ambition, bringing together an impressive crowd of students, faculty, and distinguished guests. The primary mission of the OPWA UNIMTECH Chapter is to empower, support, and elevate every Princewalean at UNIMTECH. The chapter seeks to create an environment that encourages academic excellence, social responsibility, and moral integrity among its members. With its official registration and launch, the association cemented its place in history as a symbol of the Princewalean community’s strength, resilience, and potential.
Alhaji Dauda Musa Bangura, Vice-President II of OPWA Worldwide, delivered one of the event’s most impactful keynote addresses. Bangura expressed his heartfelt joy at the start of the new chapter and extended warm greetings from OPWA Worldwide. He emphasized the transformative impact that the OPWA UNIMTECH Chapter is about to make in the Princewalean community. In his speech, Bangura urged the newly appointed executive team to advocate for their peers’ well-being while creating a welcoming academic environment. He also encouraged them to work with The Prince of Wales School’s educators to promote student discipline, academic growth, and overall development. Bangura unveiled the OPWA UNIMTECH Chapter’s Centenary Logo and generously contributed $100 to support the association’s initiatives in a symbolic gesture of support for the new chapter. The remarks of UNIMTECH Students’ Union President Jacklyn Mariama Malik added to the day’s enthusiasm. She praised the newly established chapter and commended OPWA UNIMTECH for its leadership and dedication to excellence on campus. Malik emphasized the significance of this initiative in reflecting the enduring legacy of Princewaleans. Drawing on her long-standing ties to the Princewalean community, she urged the executive team to uphold the values recognized by both the Students’ Union and the university administration. “The OPWA UNIMTECH Chapter is the first alumni association to be officially established at UNIMTECH since its founding. “This demonstrates how Princewaleans lead by example,” she said proudly in her closing remarks. Moses Kandeh, the newly appointed President of OPWA UNIMTECH, took the stage to express his heartfelt gratitude for the overwhelming support of guests, speakers, the Students’ Union, and the university administration. Reflecting on the challenges faced during the chapter’s formation, Kandeh emphasized that overcoming these obstacles demonstrated the Princewalean community’s resilience and determination. He promised to advocate for his fellow Princewaleans’ academic, social, and moral well-being, as well as to help The Prince of Wales School nurture future generations of students. The official launch of OPWA UNIMTECH is more than just a ceremonial occasion; it represents a beacon of hope and progress for the entire Princewalean community. As the chapter embarks on its mission to promote academic excellence, social cohesion, and lifelong support, it stands as a proud example of what can be accomplished through collaboration, vision, and determination. With a foundation deeply rooted in a legacy of excellence, OPWA UNIMTECH anticipates a future full of promise and transformative impact, paving the way for generations of Princewaleans to thrive and succeed.
