New Ambassador to China Holds Talks With His Chinese Counterpart

On 7th November 2023, in a significant diplomatic move that underscores the importance of fostering diplomatic ties and investment acceleration, Sierra Leone’s newly appointed Ambassador to China, Abu Bakarr Karim, paid a courtesy call on his Chinese counterpart, Ambassador Wang Qing, as he prepares to depart for Beijing.

The meeting began with warm handshakes and expressions of mutual respect and friendship between Ambassador Abu Bakarr Karim and his counterpart, Ambassador Wang Qing, symbolizing a shared commitment to diplomacy and cooperation.

In his opening statement, Ambassador Karim commended President Bio for the confidence reposed in him to represent Sierra Leone in China and its accredited nations, saying that his appointment was a testament to the trust in his ability to represent the government and people of Sierra Leone.

 H.E. Wang Qing, congratulated Ambassador Karim on his new role, saying that both Sierra Leone and the People’s Republic of China were two countries that enjoyed great relationships and mutual respect. During the courtesy visit, Ambassador Karim and his Chinese counterpart discussed a wide range of topics of mutual interest. Key areas of discussion included the government’s Big Five Game Changers, with emphasis on the Flagship ‘Feed Salone’. Both envoys emphasized the potential for Chinese investment in Sierra Leone, particularly in accelerating President Bio’s vision for various infrastructure development and the acceleration of the flagship Feed Salone Programme.

The courtesy visit by Ambassador Karim to his Chinese counterpart was both productive and symbolic. It signifies President Bio’s commitment to strengthening the relationship with China and exploring new avenues for cooperation and collaboration in various fields. By emphasizing shared goals and the potential for cooperation in various sectors, this visit sets a positive tone for future collaborations.
