Chief Executive of Leone Rock Metal Group, Gilbert Zhao
Sierra Leonean workers at the Leone Rock Mining Company, former Kingho Mining, have been complaining of improper treatment by the Company.
They made these complaints pointing at the poor condition of service meted at them, and highlighted long hours at work, and low wages, among other mistreatments.
They further maintained that apart from the fact that few Sierra Leoneans are manning top management positions, there is complete discrimination against Sierra Leonean workers as to those of other nationalities, especially the Chinese. Another concern raised by the Sierra Leonean staff is the deliberate ploy by Management to let them have a Workers Union that should be advocating for their welfare, as workers.
Despite several efforts made by them to have a union that should be speaking up for them, Management has refused to let that happen and the Ministry of Labor has been complicit in same.
In their response, the Management of Leone Rock dismissed the concerns raised by the Sierra Leonean staff as not true. Even though the Management maintained that there is a Workers Union, this medium has been reliably informed that the Union is being financed by Leone Rock and does not seek the interest of the workers. Details on Chinese Workers brought into Sierra Leone with duplicate and fake papers will be exposed soon!
