Ibrahim Jalloh, a 36-year-old businessman from Kambia town, won 700,000 New Leones after placing a winning bet on Mercury International’s online sports betting platform. The payout, which, according to the company’s documents, is Seven Hundred Thousand New Leones (700,000,000 old Leones), is the biggest prize Jalloh has won in ten years of playing Mercury football betting games.

Jalloh said after collecting his cheque that he had not expected to win and thanked Mercury International for its help. “I must say Mercury International is indeed a reliable, transparent and accurate company as far as service delivery is concerned,” he said. He added that although he has won smaller prizes before, this is by far his biggest win. “I plan to reinvest the money back into my business and hope for continued success,” he said. “I would like to take this opportunity to encourage other customers to bet with confidence and to get their winnings quickly,” he said.

Ekundayo Rowe, Chief Finance Officer at Mercury International, presented the cheque and said the quick payment reflected the company’s desire to support customers’ livelihoods and empower people across Sierra Leone. “Since last week we have been making huge payouts, and today another lucky winner joined the ranks of big individual payments,” Mr Rowe said. Mercury International pays winnings fast and transparently, he told potential winners.

Rowe explained the payment process and told customers to bring their winning tickets to the payment centre for verification. He also said the company deducts the usual government taxes from winnings, presenting this deduction as winners’ contribution to national development. “Customers need not worry; their payment will be made. He added: ‘All you need to do is present your winning ticket to our payment centre, and we will check and make sure you get the right amount after the usual government taxes are deducted.

He ended his speech by urging Jalloh to use the money wisely and invited him to act as an ambassador for Mercury International in Kambia, among other customers. “The win is a vote of confidence in Mercury’s payout processes and customer service and a financial boost,” says Jalloh.
