Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor A. Bah, on 17th April 2024, engaged Dr Stefan Friedrich, Head of the Department for Sub-Saharan Africa of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Germany, in bilateral discussions aimed at fostering increased cooperation and exchanges on advancing civic education in Sierra Leone.
The engagement took place on the margins of the prestigious Berlin Moot 2024, held from April 17th to 18th, at the Humboldt Forum on the theme “Reshaping the Peace” in Berlin, Germany. Hosted by the Berghof Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organization focused on conflict resolution, the forum brought together global policymakers, experts, and peace practitioners to explore innovative peacemaking strategies, amidst escalating conflicts worldwide.
Minister Bah was one of the VIP participants invited to share his wealth of experience and perspective on the subject and to connect with the array of international players attending the forum. Participating in a panel discussion, Minister Bah shared his experience on the creation of Sierra Leone’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission and underscored its establishment of good governance institutions to enhance socio-economic stability in the country.
He also conveyed President Julius Maada Bio’s vision and commitment to shaping peace initiatives at home and on the global stage. Accompanied by Abubakarr Joe Sesay, the Head of Outreach at the Ministry of Information and Civic Education, Minister Bah contributed insights and perspectives on addressing the evolving complexities of war and conflict. The discussions aimed to develop new approaches that go beyond traditional methods, and explore synergies between the German Foundation and Sierra Leone’s budding civic education landscape. The engagement with Dr. Friedrich underscored Sierra Leone’s dedication to building partnerships and leveraging international expertise in its pursuit of sustainable peace and development.
