Chairmanship to Ing. David Karim Fonnie and Hon. Bintu Myers

The outgoing Board Chairman of the Guma Valley Water Company, Hon. Bintu Myers, on Friday 28th June 2024, handed over the company’s Board Chairmanship to Ing. David Karim Fonnie.

The handing-over ceremony, which took place in the company’s Board room, was witnessed by the executive and senior management staff of the company.

Speaking at the ceremony, Hon. Bintu Myers thanked her colleague Board members and the staff of the Guma Valley Water Company for their support during her six-year tenure as Board Chairman of the company.
“Your support has been tremendous and has helped me to achieve my dream of making Guma a viable institution”.
She assured Ing. Fonnie that she would be leaving him in capable hands, and urged the management and staff of the company to give their fullest support to him.

Hon. Bintu Myers was appointed Board Chairman of the Guma Valley Water Company in July 2018, and under her Chairmanship, the company has seen a lot of positive growth.
Key achievements during the past six years include service reliability improvements through a robust rationing schedule, extensive maintenance efforts to reduce leakages, and expansion of services to underserved and unserved communities.
The company has also seen growth in its customer base and revenue generation.
Several infrastructure projects have been completed under her watch, such as the Millennium Challenge Corporation’s Institutional Strengthening and District Metering and Water Kiosks Demonstration program, the Freetown Water Supply Rehabilitation Project funded by UK Aid, whilst the Freetown WASH and Aquatic Environment Revamping Project and the 45 Industrial Boreholes Project are presently ongoing, all aimed at improving access to water supply to communities in the Western Area.
Notably, the company’s operational efficiency has been recognized internationally, reflected in improved ratings over the years.
Under the Chairmanship of Hon. Bintu Myers, serious efforts have been made to protect water catchment areas and secure company facilities, alongside initiatives to enhance staff welfare and workplace conditions.
Hon. Bintu Myers was recently appointed and approved by the Parliament of Sierra Leone as Board Chairman of the Sierra Leone Maritime Administration.
