Sierra Leone’s High Commissioner to India, Rashid Sesay, gathered with Sierra Leonean students studying at various tertiary institutions across the country. The meeting took place at Andhra Pradesh University, where the High Commissioner motivated the students to concentrate on their academic endeavours while embodying the values and spirit of Sierra Leone.

During his address, High Commissioner Sesay expressed his genuine excitement at the opportunity to engage with his fellow nationals, discussing their welfare, achievements, and the challenges they encounter while studying abroad. He underscored the importance of education as a vital component of national development and economic growth, aligning his remarks with the Human Capital Development initiatives promoted by His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio. A highlight of the event was the inauguration of the Sierra Leoneans in India Students Association (SLISA). The High Commissioner expressed his pride in the students for establishing this organization, which aims to foster unity and solidarity among Sierra Leonean students in India. “I am honoured and privileged to inaugurate this executive on behalf of the President and Government of Sierra Leone, as a means to promote peace and harmony among students,” he stated. He reassured the students of the government’s unwavering support and expressed his best wishes for their collective endeavours. Francis Mannah, the newly elected President of SLISA, articulated the association’s mission to create a supportive platform for all Sierra Leonean students, encouraging them to feel connected and empowered in their academic journeys. He emphasized that SLISA would serve as a bridge linking students with opportunities, addressing their struggles, and enhancing their visibility on the global stage. Mannah also extended his gratitude to High Commissioner Sesay for his inspiring presence and encouragement. Professor Dhanamjaya Rao, Dean of International Relations at Andhra Pradesh University, welcomed the Sierra Leonean students, expressing pride in the institution’s role in providing educational opportunities to them. He commended the students for their discipline, determination, and commitment to their studies, assuring them of the university’s full support throughout their academic careers. The event was enriched by cultural displays showcasing traditional Sierra Leonean attire, music, and performances, highlighting the vibrant heritage of the students and fostering a sense of community among them.
