The Ministry of Energy, in collaboration with the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA), has undertaken routine inspections of meter installations of Tariff 4, T4, customers in Freetown, with the view to identifying themselves with the customers, having a firsthand assessment of how these customers are benefitting from EDSA services, and verifying whether their consumption patterns are commensurate to their installed loads.

The inspection exercise, which targeted Maximum Demand Indicators (MDIs), sought to ensure that there were no leakages and that energy consumptions of the Tariff 4 category were properly registered in the respective meters of such customers. T4 customers are those that have installed loads above 15KW.

The Ministry of Energy and EDSA aim to use this exercise and future exercises targeting other categories of customers, to improve revenue generation of the utility and tackle illegal electricity abstractions.

With the energy sector and the Feed Salone agenda being inextricably linked, reforms continue in the sector.
