Dubai, United Arab Emirates – Sierra Leone’s Chief Minister, Dr. David Moinina Sengeh, delivered a keynote address at the World Governments Summit in Dubai, where he highlighted President Dr. Julius Maada Bio’s ‘Big Five’ Agenda. In his speech, Dr. Sengeh emphasized Sierra Leone’s commitment to education, its efforts to improve local food production, and the importance of innovation and infrastructure in driving the country’s development.
Dr. Sengeh praised Sierra Leone’s investment in education, stating that the country was one of the leading global spenders in this sector. He highlighted the significant increase in school enrollment, improved learning outcomes, and the opportunities provided for all, including girls and children with disabilities. The government is determined to build on these achievements and further enhance the education system as a sustainable foundation for growth and development.
Additionally, Dr Sengeh discussed President Bio’s Human Capital Development drive, which includes the launch of the ‘Feed Salone’ initiative. This program aims to improve local food production, expand food value chains, create job opportunities for women and youth, particularly in rural areas, and support overall economic growth. Dr. Sengeh emphasized the importance of radical inclusion, ensuring that everyone can contribute to national development. With 70% of the population being youthful, acquiring the right skills and employment opportunities is crucial for their meaningful participation in the economy.
Furthermore, Dr. Sengeh highlighted the government’s commitment to public sector reform, recognizing that it is essential for the effective implementation of development initiatives. The reform aims to ensure that the benefits of government actions reach the people in a just and equitable manner. The Chief Minister also emphasized the significance of innovation and infrastructure, which aligns with the theme of the World Governments Summit.
Sierra Leone’s vision extends beyond immediate goals, as Dr Sengeh mentioned in the country’s seven-year Medium National Development Plan, which aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals 2030. President Bio’s leadership has set a standard by appointing women and young people to critical and flagship portfolios, emphasizing the importance of their inclusion in decision-making processes.
During his visit to Dubai, Dr. Sengeh also met with H.E. Mohamed Bin Taliah, Chief of the UAE Government Services. They discussed various collaborative and transformative ways to improve public service delivery, exploring opportunities for knowledge and expertise exchange between Sierra Leone and the United Arab Emirates.
Sierra Leone’s presence at the World Governments Summit in Dubai showcases the country’s commitment to advancing its development agenda and seeking partnerships for sustainable growth.
