Freetown – The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Alpha Sesay Esq., held a high-level consultative meeting on Tuesday 7 July 2026 at the Guma Building, Lamina Sankoh Street, to review progress and agree a timetable for the completion of the Tripartite Committee’s electoral reform recommendations.
The meeting gathered key stakeholders including representatives of the Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion (ICPNC), National Moral Guarantors of the Agreement for National Unity and legal representatives of the All People’s Congress (APC). Participants took stock of reforms already introduced, reviewed the status of measures already underway and agreed on a clear roadmap to accelerate the implementation of outstanding recommendations within the agreed timeline.
The Attorney General, Sesay, said the Government remains committed to the proposals of the Tripartite Committee. He said good governance and electoral reforms are needed to consolidate the democratic institutions of Sierra Leone and maintain national unity. He underscored the importance for political parties, peacebuilding organisations and government institutions to continue to work together towards meeting the December deadline for the completion of agreed actions.
This meeting was a follow-up to the last meeting with the International Moral Guarantors and was an opportunity for the stakeholders to review compliance with the agreed timelines and commitments. The ICPNC convened the meeting and, in line with its mandate to promote peace and dialogue, agreed to follow up on the progress and called for cooperation and support for the practical implementation of the Tripartite recommendations.
Participants discussed the legislative and administrative reforms and identified areas that need more attention and better coordination. They committed to mechanisms to fast-track the drafting, consultations and passage of outstanding measures and underlined the need for transparency and broad-based consultation with stakeholders to ensure that the reforms are credible and sustainable.
The APC legal representatives, Hon. Alpha Abdullai Osman Timbo and Boniface Esq., told the media after the meeting that they are happy about the speed of legislative reforms and congratulated the Attorney General, Alpha Sesay, for his leadership, transparency and unflinching commitment to the process. Their comments reflected a common resolve among the political actors and the peace structures to maintain the pace.
The consultative meeting was a reaffirmation of the commitment to continue the dialogue, to build confidence and to put the national interest above all else as Sierra Leone moves forward on its democratic reform agenda. The ICPNC reaffirmed its support for efforts that promote sustainable peace, electoral integrity and social cohesion.
