Amb. Barrie Presents Letters of Credence To Saudi Foreign Ministry

Deputy Minister for Protocol Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, His Excellency Abdulmajeed R Alasmari, on Monday 9th December 2024, received letters of credence from Sierra Leone’s new Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, His Excellency Mr. Mohammed S. Barrie.

Presenting the letters of credence, Ambassador Barrie conveyed kind sentiments from His Excellency the President, Dr. Julius Maada Bio, the Government and People of Sierra Leone to His Majesty, the King and People of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He said he had the honour of presenting the diplomatic letters from Sierra Leone’s President, which empowers him as Ambassador Extra-Ordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Kingdom. He described the occasion as “a great esteem, as I undertake this mission”, to further deepen the long enduring friendship between Sierra Leone and Saudi Arabia. 

He assured the senior Saudi diplomat that he was committed to fostering and strengthening the bilateral ties between the two countries in promoting mutual interest, understanding and collaborating on issues of common interests.

“Your Excellency, it is my sincere hope that together we can advance our shared goals in areas such as trade, tourism, security, culture, Agriculture and Religious exchange”, Ambassador Barrie reaffirmed. 

The new Sierra Leonean envoy said he was looking forward to working closely with the Saudi Government further to enhance the long-standing partnership between the two friendly countries. 

Responding, His Excellency Abdulmajeed R Alasmari, on behalf of the government and people of Saudi Arabia, congratulated Ambassador Barrie on his appointment.

“Your Excellency, on behalf of the government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, I hereby accept the letters of credence, and also officially accept you as Sierra Leone’s Ambassador Extra-Ordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,” His Excellency Abdulmajeed Alasmari concluded. 

Ambassador Barrie was accompanied by his wife, Mrs Jalahan Barrie, the Deputy Ambassador of Mission, Mr Abdul Aziz Turay, the Head of Chancery, Minister Counsellor Alhaji Ahmed Tejan Kabba, and the Information Attaché, Abubakar Bah. 

In another development, Ambassador Barrie held his maiden meeting with a cross-section of the Embassy staff, where he assured of working with every staff to achieve the goals of His Excellency, President Dr. Julius Madda Bio. 

The Deputy Ambassador, Mr. Abdul Azizi Turay, urged the staff to give his boss the fullest support. He described Ambassador Barrie as “a very humble and proactive leader, with established networks globally”, noting that all he needs is the support of everyone.

The Senior Liaison Officer, Alhaji Ibrahim Koi-Dowui, on behalf of the staff members, assured the new Ambassador of their fullest support at all times.
