Air Sierra Leone has announced a significant expansion of its international operations, introducing direct flights between Sierra Leone and the United Kingdom, set to launch on April 26-27, 2025. This announcement follows the successful initiation of commercial flights between Freetown and Lagos just three months prior, marking a pivotal moment in the airline’s growth.
The new route will be operated by the Boeing 737-8 Max, a modern aircraft capable of accommodating 189 passengers. Flights will be scheduled three times a week, departing from Gatwick International Airport on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 11:00 PM. Travellers can expect to arrive at Freetown International Airport at 5:00 AM the following morning, allowing for a convenient overnight journey. For return flights, passengers will depart Freetown on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at 9:00 AM, with arrivals back at Gatwick expected by 3:00 PM.
To commemorate this milestone in the revival of Sierra Leone’s aviation sector, a joint press conference will be held at Freetown International Airport on April 26, 2025, at 1:30 PM, co-hosted by the Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority (SLCAA) and Air Sierra Leone. This event will be followed by a Grand Launch Gala Dinner later that evening.
The inaugural flight will also mark the opening of ticket sales, paving the way for full commercial operations to begin on June 16, 2025. This expansion not only enhances Air Sierra Leone’s service offerings but also strengthens the connection between Sierra Leone and the UK, providing travellers with new opportunities for international travel.
