Africell Mobile Telecommunications Company has officially launched an exciting 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament exclusively for its employees, with a total prize pool of 18,000 new Leones for the top-performing Teams. The tournament is being held at the Young Sportsmen Club (YSC) on Wilkinson Road in Freetown, which provides an exciting atmosphere for both Players and spectators.

Shadi Gerjawi, Chief Executive Officer of Africell, emphasised at the launch event the tournament’s goal of fostering camaraderie and enjoyment among employees. “This initiative reflects our commitment to encouraging our employees to work hard while also spending time together,” Mr Gerjawi said. He extended a warm invitation to all staff members, including players, to bring their families to each match day, ensuring that everyone had a full entertainment experience.

According to Fobay Jusu, Africell’s Human Resource Manager, the tournament aligns with the company’s strategic management goals of helping employees discover and hone their talents. Our goal is to help our staff explore their abilities, and we hope that by the end of this tournament, we will have identified potential players who can represent us at the national level,” she stated. Madam Jusu emphasised the importance of participation in developing both new and existing talents.
This basketball tournament is part of Africell’s larger initiative to promote the sport in Sierra Leone and the company is actively looking to identify and develop talent for a competitive basketball team in future national competitions. The tournament’s prize distribution includes 10,000 new Leones for the winner, 5,000 new Leones for the runners-up, and 3,000 new Leones for the second runners-up, making the competition even more appealing to participants.
