A team of experts from COWI A/S Consortium- a global engineering and consulting business, has arrived in Freetown from Denmark.
Their arrival follows the successful CRET 2024 National Dialogue hosted by the Presidential Initiative on Climate Change, Renewable Energy and Food Security (PI-CREF) held at the Freetown International Conference Centre at Aberdeen.
At the Dialogue, the Danish Energy Agency (DEA), a member of the Accelerated Partnerships for Renewables in Africa (APRA) announced a targeted technical assistance programme to support the operations of the Electricity Distribution and Supply Agency (EDSA) and its operations through the Grid Loss Reduction Technical Assistance Programme (GLRTAP). The team will stay in Freetown for nine working days, as part of its diagnostic mission to understand the operations of EDSA and its losses and meet with diverse stakeholders.
Upon completion of the team’s mission, they will share a detailed report of their findings, which will then allow the DEA to send in experts to improve institutional capacity and provide hands-on training for O&M technicians at EDSA. COWI’s expertise in renewable energy, infrastructure buildings and industry, aims “to shape a future where people and societies grow and flourish by co-creating sustainable and beautiful solutions that improve the quality of life of people today and in the future, for generations to come.
The team was welcomed to Freetown by Mr. Anthony Kamara, Director of Partnerships, Communications and Outreach, on behalf of the initiative’s Chairman, Hon. Dr. Kandeh Yumkella.
