Chinese Embassy in Sierra Leone held a farewell party for the international students who have been awarded Chinese scholarships for the 2024-2025 academic year.
Ambassador Wang Qing, Minister of Technology and Higher Education Hon. Haja Ramatulai Wurie, and Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Victoria Sulimani attended and delivered speeches. Ambassador Wang congratulated the 189 scholarship recipients on their upcoming study in China and reviewed the fruitful cooperation results in education and human capital building achieved by the two sides in the past 53 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Sierra Leone.
Amb. Wang said that the two sides reached an important consensus on deepening the cooperation in education and other fields during the successful state visit of H.E. President Julius Maada Bio to China in February this year and that the Chinese side is willing to implement the results of the visit with the Sierra Leonean side and to continue to deepen the cooperation in education and people-to-people exchanges to better benefit the two peoples.
It is hoped that the international students will cherish the opportunity and achieve success in their studies, and in the future become the backbone of Sierra Leonean national construction and the inheritors of Sino-Sierra Leonean friendship. On behalf of the Sierra Leonean government, Minister Wurie and Director General Sulimani thanked China for its long-term support in education and other fields, positively evaluated the fruitful achievements of the cooperation between Sierra Leone and China, said the Sierra Leonean government attaches great importance to the development of human capital and is looking forward to further strengthening the cooperation in education and people-to-people exchanges.
They also encouraged the international students to make full use of the opportunity to go to China to study and continue to pursue excellence and progress, to promote the friendship and cooperation between China and Sierra Leone. In their speeches, representatives of international students thanked the Chinese government for providing them with valuable learning opportunities and expressed that they would strive to be the inheritors of Sino-Sierra Leonean friendship and ambassadors of cultural exchanges. Representatives of the Sino-Sierra Leone Alumni Association (SISLAA) shared their study experiences in China and put forward suggestions on study and life.
