Conference attendees get instruction at the Kissy Sierra Leone Stake Children Nutritious Food Program, on 27 July 2024.

On July 27, 2024, over 200 people from different communities came with their children to participate in the Children Nutritious Food Program, sponsored by the Kissy, Sierra Leone region of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  The event was focused on helping malnourished children.

Elder Kenneth Pambu, Area Seventy in the Africa West area, presided at the event, which he opened by providing an overview of the program. Parents then presented their children to the nurses and trained volunteers, who helped in the evaluation of the children.  After their children received medical checkups, these parents received instructions on medical care and nutrition for their children and, where appropriate, were given supplies to help remediate short-term issues.

Adama Kargbo, who attended to have her son helped, expressed these thoughts about the event: “I feel very blessed this day to have a nutritious food supply for my son. However, after his medical checkup of him,  I was a bit worried, because his condition was worse than the other children. Speaking with my local women’s leader, I was relieved, from her counselling. It is a blessing for us as members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Having this opportunity has opened my mind to see how loving and caring our Heavenly Father is for his children.”

Community stakeholders, medical staff, volunteers, and church members all participated in making this an event that parents and children felt was beneficial and a great blessing.
