Sierra Leone’s Chief Minister, Dr David Moinina Sengeh, recently visited the delegation of the 13th African Games in Accra, Ghana. While travelling to Denmark for official business, the Chief Minister took the time to motivate and uplift the national athletes and officials competing in the esteemed sporting event.

The Chief Minister supported the athletes and underlined the government’s commitment to sports development when he visited the team at the University of Ghana’s Games Village. He assured the delegation that support for sports would rise in the lead-up to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, and stressed the importance of sports in the country’s agenda for developing human capital.

“To get to Ghana, I have to visit the team delegation,” Dr. Sengeh stated. “This is the continent’s biggest sports platform, and President Bio’s administration takes this game seriously.” “Before proceeding, it is my responsibility as a humble servant of the President and the People of the Republic of Sierra Leone, to see the delegation and offer encouragement.”

The Sports Minister and her team’s efforts to advocate for more funding for sports were acknowledged by the Chief Minister. To give the nation’s athletes the means to succeed in the global arena, he promised to keep pushing for more funding for sports.

Dr Sengeh was met at the Lancaster Hotel by NOC President, Prince Vandy Sually, NSA Executive Director, Dr Kenneth Brima, and Minister of Sports, Augusta James-Teima before he met with the athletes and officials. The government’s steadfast support for the athletes and its dedication to advancing sports in Sierra Leone were both demonstrated by the visit.

The Chief Minister’s words of support and encouragement will serve as an inspiration for the athletes from Sierra Leone, as the African Games progress. Sierra Leone is ready to leave its mark on the world sports scene, thanks to the government’s support and the athletes’ commitment.
