Freetown | 8 September 2026-Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Health (MoH) launched a consignment of SRHR medicines and essential health commodities worth US$2.5 million, which officials say will strengthen emergency and routine maternal and child health services nationwide.

Supplies have reached the National Medical Supplies Agency (NMSA) warehouses. They are being prepared for distribution to health facilities nationwide to support Cesarean sections, normal deliveries and other urgent obstetric and neonatal needs.
“This investment highlights the government’s continued commitment to safeguarding critical health services for women, children and families across Sierra Leone,” said Minister of Health Austin Demby, PhD, MPH.
The procurement supports ongoing #300DaysofActivism for Triple Zeros. According to national data, the leading causes of maternal and newborn deaths are still high blood pressure in pregnancy, malaria, postpartum bleeding and sepsis.

The medicines and supplies being procured are intended to address these priority conditions. To ensure integrity and efficiency, the Ministry has implemented tracking and accountability measures to track the movement of commodities from NMSA stores to frontline facilities and prevent diversion or misuse. The delivery highlights the health system’s capacity to deliver life-saving care to mothers, infants and families, according to health officials.
