On February 21, 2025, the Sierra Education Fund (SEF), a non-profit organization based in Chicago, USA, awarded scholarships to ten deserving students from the engineering faculty at Milton Margai Technical University (MMTU). The presentation ceremony took place at the university’s Goderich Campus, marking a significant milestone in the SEF’s ongoing commitment to support education in Sierra Leone. The scholarship initiative, which allocates a total of 84,700 New Leones (NLE), aims to assist students facing financial difficulties in pursuing their academic goals.

This funding is particularly crucial for students who may struggle to cover tuition fees and other related expenses, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder their educational journey. During the ceremony, Mrs. Helen Keilie, a representative from SEF, highlighted the organization’s dedication to providing access to higher education for bright and hardworking students. She emphasized that the scholarship program is designed not only to reward academic excellence but also to alleviate the financial burdens that students face.

This support enables them to concentrate on their studies and prepares them to contribute effectively to national development after graduation. Prof. Philip John Kanu, Vice-Chancellor and Principal of MMTU welcomed the scholarship initiative as a timely intervention that will enhance student retention and academic performance.

He expressed gratitude for SEF’s partnership and encouraged students to take full advantage of this opportunity by maintaining high academic standards. SEF continues to seek partnerships to expand its scholarship offerings, reinforcing its mission to empower the next generation of Sierra Leonean professionals through education.
