Ministry of Employment, Labour and Social Security, and Social partners, supported by the International Labour Organization (ILO), successfully held a two-day Resource Mobilization Workshop for the implementation of the Decent Work Country Programme Phase Two (DWCP II).
The event aimed at strategizing on funding and implementing the DWCP II, emphasizing the crucial role of stakeholders, including government, NGOs, and international donor organizations, in addressing Labour issues in Sierra Leone.
The DWCP II, running from 2023 to 2027, is a beacon of hope for Sierra Leone’s development, as it focuses on employment creation, expanding social protection, and enhancing social dialogue, in alignment with Sierra Leone’s Medium-Term National Development Plan (MTNDP).
It supports the ambitious Presidential goal of creating 500,000 jobs in the next five years, offering a promising outlook for the country’s development and instilling a sense of optimism in the stakeholders.
The Deputy Minister of Employment, Labour and Social Security, Lansana Mohamed Dumbuya, while declaring the deliberations open on Tuesday on behalf of the Minister, Mohamed Rahman Swaray, reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to the DWCP II.
This commitment, particularly its alignment with the Big Five Game Changers, such as the Youth Empowerment Scheme, aims to instil confidence in the stakeholders about the government’s dedication to the cause, providing a sense of reassurance and trust in the programme’s success, according to the Hon. Minister.
ILO’s Head of Programmes, Chineye Emeka-Anuna, stressed the importance of a robust resource mobilization strategy, noting that lack of funds hindered the previous phase.
She highlighted that securing the necessary funding for job creation initiatives, social protection programmes, and capacity building is essential for the success of the DWCP II
She reaffirmed the ILO’s unwavering support for Sierra Leone’s decent work agenda, inspiring stakeholders to continue their efforts to realize the DWCP II’s objectives and broader development goals for the country.
