On Thursday, February 15, 2024, in a historic diplomatic move, the capital of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Addis Ababa, welcomed Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, vice president of the Republic of Sierra Leone.

His visit takes place in advance of the 37th African Union (AU) General Assembly, which is set for Saturday, February 17, 2024, and Sunday, February 18, 2024. Dr Jalloh is anticipated to be a key player in the talks and debates at the AU General Assembly, representing the President of Sierra Leone, Brig (Rtd) Dr. Julius Maada Bio. He carries the responsibility and authority to represent Sierra Leone’s interests and concerns on the continent as Vice President.

His Excellency Harold Bundu Saffa, the Permanent Representative and Ambassador Plenipotentiary, led a delegation of senior Ethiopian government officials who cordially welcomed Dr. Jalloh upon his arrival in Addis Ababa. Sierra Leone’s attendance at the AU General Assembly is highly valued, as evidenced by this reception. There are many urgent issues facing the African continent, and the 37th AU General Assembly is anticipated to address many of them. With an emphasis on advancing development, security, and peace, the assembly will give member states a forum to talk about and resolve a range of issues.

The agenda includes important subjects like economic growth, climate change, regional integration, and the advancement of democracy and good governance. As an African Union member, Sierra Leone understands the importance of taking an active role in these talks. With Dr. Jalloh attending the assembly, the nation will have a chance to highlight the tremendous progress it has made recently in areas like economic development, healthcare, and education. Sierra Leone has a great chance to improve bilateral ties with other African countries thanks to the Vice President’s attendance at the AU General Assembly. Sierra Leone can investigate opportunities for cooperation and coordination in several areas, such as trade, investment, and technology transfer, using dialogue and engagement. Dr Jalloh represents Sierra Leone at the 37th AU General Assembly, representing the interests and ambitions of the country.

His attendance in Addis Ababa is a symbol of Sierra Leone’s adherence to the goals and ideals of the African Union and its commitment to advancing stability, development, and peace throughout the continent. Sierra Leoneans eagerly await the results of the AU General Assembly and any good effects it might have on their country’s future, both at home and abroad. The people of Sierra Leone are united in their support of the Vice President and are confident that their interests and concerns will be adequately represented on the continental stage as he engages in talks and negotiations.
