Sierra Leone Receives Medical Aid from Morocco

The enduring bilateral ties between Sierra Leone and the Kingdom of Morocco and their deep and extensive engagements have yield fruits with the exchange of donor aid from the Arab nation. President Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone and his Moroccan counterpart His Royal Highness King Mohammed VI on Wednesday 24th June 2020 exchanged a consignment of medical aid from Morocco to Sierra Leone as support towards the COVID-19 emergency response. The consignment includes 250,000 protective masks, 30,000 visors, 20,000 medical cap, 2,000 gowns, 1,000 hydro-alcoholic gel, 25,000 batches of chloroquine, and 500 batches of azithromycin.

Receiving the consignment on behalf of the people of Sierra Leone, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (and also NaCOVERC Spokesperson), Solomon Jamiru praised the excellent bilateral relations between the two countries; and the deep fraternal bond between H.E Julius Maada Bio and King Mohammed VI. The Spokesperson similarly noted the fine manner in which Minister Nabeela Tunis and her Moroccan counterpart Nasser Bourita have superintended our diplomatic relations, which is crystallising in many respects, including the medical consignment received today.

It is worth noting that Sierra Leone has immensely supported the Kingdom of Morocco on the international front, and both countries will continue to work closely within our intra-Africa cooperation framework.  Redouane Houssaini (Director for United Nations and International Organisations in Morocco’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation) delivered the medical aid through a special Air Maroc flight.

Sierra Leone receiving delegation comprised Solomon Jamiru (DMFAIC and NACOVERC Spokesperson), Ambassador Alimamy Bangura (SL’s Ambassador to Guinea), Dr Anthony Sandy (Deputy Minister of Health and Sanitation 1), Dr Philip Kargbo (Deputy Secretary, MOHS), Unisa Kamara (Deputy Director for Policy, MFAIC) and Benga Sama (Director for Africa Division, MFAIC).
