Muslim Family Threatens to Kill Son for His Homosexual Practice

A devoted and respected Muslim family in the Western part of Freetown, Sierra Leone, has threatened to kill their 44-year-old son after learning that he is a practising LGBTQ+ member.

Mohamed Dauda Kamara, whose father was the chief Imam of one of Western Freetown’s largest mosques, and his mother, a well-known Haja (who has twice visited Mecca), has been on the run since August 2024, and his current whereabouts are unknown.

According to the family, LGBTQ+ practices are forbidden under Islamic law, and they will accept any member of their family who engages in such practices.

His mother, Nenneh Oya Kamara, told reporters that she is Mohamed Douda Kamara’s biological mother and that she was burned in a prominent Islamic home. However, after her husband died approximately 18 years ago, Mohamed began engaging in shameful activities that the family would never tolerate.

Mohamed Dauda Kamara, a well-known LQBTQ+ member in his community, has also been threatened by his brothers, who have openly threatened to incite youths in the community to kill him if he continues to practice LGBTQ+ and bring shame and disgrace to the family. His brother, Musa Kamara, stated unequivocally that they would rather see Mohamed Douda Kamara in a casket than see him openly practice homosexuality.

Mohamed Dauda Kamara’s whereabouts are unknown, but his friends have informed the media that he has left Sierra Leone.
