  • Mrs. Fatima Maada Bio speaking during the launching

Her Excellency, Mrs. Fatima Maada Bio has launched the Maada and Fatima Bio Foundation’s Free Sanitary Pads for school-going children to help keep girls in school during their menstrual period. The initiative is to complement the government’s free quality education drive and promote proper hygiene among girls who can’t afford it. The initiative was launched at a dinner organized by the Maada and Fatima Bio Foundation at Bintumani center and was graced by H. E. Dr. Julius Maada Bio, the Vice President, Dr. Juldeh Jalloh, and top dignitaries. Mrs. Bio explains that there are a lot of school-going girls who miss eighty-four (84) days each year just because they can’t afford sanitary pads, she adds that the Maada and Fatima Bio Foundation view that as a discrimination against girls and that is why the foundation decided to work on such challenge to see how many girls they can help and make sure they don’t miss out of school during their menstrual periods. The First Lady expounds that their Foundation can’t do it alone that why they are calling on other Institutions to come onboard and support the initiative. “We also want to use this initiative to educate young girls who are not educated, and who doesn’t understand the meaning of seeing their menstruation, not just educate them, but to provide them sanitary pads so that they will be able to maintain their dignity,” Mrs. Bio stated. Six hundred and fifty thousand (650,000) young girls set to benefit from this initiative if funding were secured.
