The European Union Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Manuel Muller, and the outgoing Ghana High Commissioner, Her Excellency Mrs. Worwornyo Agyeman, on Monday 15th July 2024, bade farewell to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Alhaji Musa Timothy Kabba.

Ambassador Muller recalled the bilateral relations between Sierra Leone and the EU, which spanned for decades, and his three years of wonderful interactions with the government and people of Sierra Leone. He said his successor would continue this, as diplomats come and go, but the relationship between the two nations would always remain.

Ambassador Muller lauded the Tripartite report and its recommendations, noting that it signifies Sierra Leone’s determination to solve the conflict.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Alhaji Musa Timothy Kabba, thanked Ambassador Muller and the European Union for being strong partners in development.
Minister Kabba said that, after the country’s civil war, the European Union’s investment and development projects, helped to revive the mining sector.

He highlighted ongoing projects funded by the EU in the country, and how the EU’s investment in the country has transformed lives.

The Ghanaian High Commissioner said she had a good time working with the Minister and the Ministry as a whole, and that she enjoyed the cooperation.

She hoped her successor would enjoy the same cooperation. “We are also happy that things are eventually falling into place. There may be hitches here and there…We encourage you to know that your sisters in Ghana are with you, together with the backing of ECOWAS”, she said.

Kabba expressed the ministry’s profound gratitude to the Ghanaian High Commissioner, as he recalled a long historic relationship between the two ECOWAS states. He said Sierra Leone enjoyed the support of the Ghanaian government and its people at a difficult time when there was conflict in Sierra Leone. “I want to thank you for this service. Be rest assured that Sierra Leone values the existing relations between us – fraternal, economic, political and many more. I wish you all the best in your career. I have also personally enjoyed working with you,” he said, recalling that after the November 26 failed coup in 2023, Ghana was among the very first countries to solidarize with the government of Sierra Leone. “We treasure that and we look forward to strengthening the relationship”, the Minister said.
