Chief Executive Officer of the NCPC, Mr Lawrence Landi Bassie
Following a meeting held at the office of the National Consumer Protection Commission (NCPC), attended by the heads of CSOs operating in the consumer space in the country, in which audio evidence was produced of verbal attacks and threats to the person of the Chief Executive Officer of the NCPC, Mr Lawrence Landi Bassie, the leaders unequivocally denounced the actions of the purported members of their organizations.
Tendering their apologies, they resolved to issue a joint press release condemning and dissociating themselves from the actions of the perpetrators.
It was disclosed that the workers in the respective CSOs were only volunteers and that the NCPC is mandated by the Consumer Protection Act of 2020 to carry out functions to protect consumers. They further observed that a cordial and amicable relationship exists with the NCPC, and there has been collaboration in addressing the unfair trade practices in the country.
