Chief Minister of Sierra Leone, Dr. David Moinina Sengeh, has presented the Report of the Cross Party on Electoral Systems and Management Bodies Review, and its recommendations to various heads of institutions for their study, review and plans for the implementation of the report’s recommendations.

It could be recalled that ‘The Cross Party on Electoral Systems and Management Bodies Review’, which is popularly known as the tripartite committee, comprised the leadership of the government, the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) party, and the UN Resident Coordinator, did its final report and presented it to President Julius Maada Bio on 1st July 2024.

Cabinet has received the tripartite report and supported the implementation of its recommendations. As a result, the Chief Minister engaged the heads of various state institutions, which include Statistics Sierra Leone (Stat-SL), Office of National Security (ONS), National Civil Registration Authority (NCRA), Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC), among others, on plans to implement the report’s recommendations.

Dr. David Moinina Sengeh said he was authorized by the cabinet to oversee the implementation of the report’s recommendations.

“Many of these recommendations require functional and management reforms. We want to know the resources needed for the implementation of the recommendations of this report. This is because we are eager to implement these recommendations as soon as possible,” he told his audience.

He told the PPRC to read the report and subsequently present it to all political parties, adding that he has already presented the report to the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL).

“This government is committed to strengthening state institutions. I want every institutional head here to look at the recommendations that have to do with their institutions. Put them into clusters and tell us what is required from your institutions to implement these recommendations,” he said while urging them to send their responses to the Chief Minister’s office within two weeks.

National Security Coordinator, Abdulai Caulker, used the opportunity to call on political parties to have confidence in state institutions, adding that most of these institutions have been in operation for many years and have stood the test of time.
