Ambassador Rashid Sesay emphasized the importance of adhering to local laws and regulations during a recent meeting with executive members of the Sierra Leone Community in the UAE. The meeting provided an opportunity for the Ambassador to connect with his compatriots and discuss various welfare issues affecting Sierra Leoneans living in the Gulf state.

During the meeting, Ambassador Sesay expressed the Embassy’s commitment to supporting its nationals and highlighted the various initiatives in place to assist them. He provided updates on his recent visits to Dubai’s correctional facilities, where several Sierra Leoneans are currently detained. The Ambassador stated that his goal in visiting these centres was to obtain firsthand accounts of the situations faced by his fellow citizens. Following these visits, he began discussions with UAE authorities to look into potential solutions for those affected.

Ambassador Sesay emphasized the Embassy’s commitment to building a strong and effective Sierra Leone community in the UAE. He emphasized ongoing efforts to assist the community in developing a constitution that will provide a more structured and organized framework for their activities. Furthermore, he urged the community’s executive members to work with the Embassy to raise awareness among Sierra Leoneans about important issues such as immigration, labour rights, and job opportunities.

Sierra Leoneans are increasingly flocking to the UAE in search of work and a higher standard of living. The growing community has increased the visibility of Sierra Leoneans in the region, but it has also highlighted the importance of responsible behaviour. In his ongoing outreach efforts, Ambassador Sesay has consistently urged his compatriots to embrace peace, respect their host country’s laws, and serve as positive role models for others.

Ambassador Sesay hopes that by implementing these initiatives, he will be able to strengthen the Sierra Leonean community’s bonds and ensure its success while upholding UAE values of lawfulness and cooperation.
