Air Sierra Leone has selected Moment, a specialist provider of digital onboard solutions for the aviation sector, to deploy a Wireless In-Flight Entertainment (W-IFE) platform across its fleet, the two companies announced today.
The agreement marks Moment’s second contract on the African continent this semester, following a recent agreement with another regional carrier. It is a significant step in Air Sierra Leone’s strategy to modernise its passenger experience as it expands routes and capacity.
Air Sierra Leone was founded in late 2024, with its headquarters at Freetown International Airport. The airline began commercial operations in January 2025, flying a regional route between Freetown and Lagos on a leased Embraer ERJ 145 aircraft. Since its inception, the carrier has expanded its route network and fleet, adding Boeing 737 MAX aircraft and launching direct flights to major international hubs.
The carrier’s goals include establishing itself as a dynamic regional and international operator that provides modern travel options, competitive fares, and dependable service to both domestic and international passengers. One of its first flagship routes is a direct flight from Freetown to London Gatwick, as part of a larger strategy to improve Sierra Leone’s connectivity for business, tourism, and cultural exchange.
Moment will equip Air Sierra Leone’s B737-MAX aircraft with its Flymingo Box, a compact wireless IFE server that streams entertainment directly to passengers’ personal devices. The Flymingo Box features a fully brand-customised platform that displays content and services in a style consistent with the airline’s identity. Passengers connecting to the system will see an intuitive interface with a variety of discovery tools, such as search functionality, curated playlists, and a prominent top scroll bar displaying trailers. Additional features include an in-flight digital magazine, an in-flight shopping menu, and interactive elements like personalised ratings and surveys to collect passenger feedback and help the airline improve its offerings over time.
In addition to providing the Flymingo Box hardware and platform, Moment will serve as Air Sierra Leone’s Content Service Provider, sourcing and integrating a diverse entertainment package tailored to the carrier’s international audience. The curated library available on board will include 20 films, 20 TV shows, 10 documentaries, 10 podcasts, 10 animated programs, and 10 games.
To serve the airline’s multilingual passenger base, all content will be available in English, French, and Spanish.
“We’re excited to introduce this level of entertainment and connectivity to Air Sierra Leone passengers,” said Edgard Lacle, Air Sierra Leone’s General Manager. “Moment’s flexible solution, combined with its varied content offers, allows us to provide a modern, multilingual entertainment experience that reflects our brand’s commitment to passenger comfort and innovation.”
Tanguy Morel, CEO and co-founder of Moment, stated that providing both the technology and content packages simplifies deployment and speeds up the delivery of a feature-rich onboarding experience. “By providing both technology and content services, we’re providing Air Sierra Leone the best solution to give an engaging, feature-rich entertainment platform that enhances the onboard experience while staying true to their identity,” he told me.
Moment provides entertainment, e-commerce, and connectivity services to the transportation and hospitality sectors, with an annual reach of approximately 130 million passengers on planes, trains, and boats. Since 2013, the company has prioritised open-innovation projects and strong client relationships with existing customers such as RwandAir, Malaysia Airlines, and Nok Air. Air Sierra Leone’s Flymingo Box installation is part of a larger effort to provide contemporary, comfortable, and culturally accessible travel options as the airline expands its network and brand.
