Following a working visit to the city as part of the Afrimedia Tour 2025, residents of Makeni have showered Africell Sierra Leone CEO Shadi Gerjawi with praise, calling him a “God-sent man.” Senior management teams from Africell and Afrimoney, as well as Martison Obeng-Agyei, CEO of Afrimoney, joined Gerjawi on the visit. The delegation’s objectives were to interact directly with clients, introduce new developments and prospects, and bring the company’s services closer to the Makeni community.

Gerjawi emphasised the value of getting candid, helpful feedback from clients in Makeni and the surrounding areas during the public engagement. He reaffirmed Africell’s commitment to paying attention to community needs, enhancing service provision, and upholding close relationships with locals. He stated that “customer feedback is essential to how we design and deliver our services,” highlighting the company’s dedication to fulfilling expectations and promptly addressing concerns.

Additionally, Africell’s milestone anniversaries—20 years of operation in Sierra Leone and 25 years throughout Africa—coincided with the visit, and the company commemorated the occasion with several promotions. One such incentive that has thrilled many Makeni residents is the Jubilee Jumbo Promo, which offers fortunate subscribers the chance to win valuable prizes like a fully furnished house at TAF Micro City.

Gerjawi’s promise to restore Makeni’s famous clock tower, a cherished local landmark with historical and cultural significance, was one of their most notable announcements. He also disclosed plans for a significant fibre optic installation project that is expected to start by the end of August. Expanding high-speed connectivity, enhancing network coverage, and enhancing service quality for homes, small businesses, and larger enterprises throughout the region are the goals of this citywide fibre rollout.

Africell pledged to support community development initiatives in addition to infrastructure, including the establishment of a memorial cemetery in honour of the Makeni community. These programs demonstrate the company’s commitment to becoming a long-term partner in the civic and social advancement of the city.

To support that market, Gerjawi promised continued investment in infrastructure and services, emphasising that the Northern Region continues to be one of Africell’s strongest customer bases. The business described several specific technology and service enhancements that are planned for Makeni in the future, including the installation of a high-speed fibre network throughout the city, improved network capabilities for increased connectivity, ongoing Afrimoney expansion to increase access to digital finance, and ongoing customer-driven improvements based on direct resident engagement. These actions collectively demonstrate Africell’s strategy of combining cutting-edge technology with a customer-first mentality to bolster its dominance in Sierra Leone’s telecom market.
