On June 24, 2024, the American Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Amb. Bryan David Hunt paid a courtesy call on the Sierra Leone Speaker of the Sixth Parliament of the Second Republic of Sierra Leone, the Rt. Hon. Speaker, Segepoh Solomon Thomas.

The American Ambassador equally used the opportunity to express congratulations to the House Speaker of the Sierra Leone Parliament for his historic election as the youngest Speaker ever in the history of the Sierra Leone Parliament.

“Mr Speaker, congratulations on your historic election as Speaker of Sierra Leone Parliament,” said Amb. Bryan David Hunt, the American Ambassador to Sierra Leone.

He also intimated the Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament Hon. Segepoh Solomon Thomas that he had been deeply interested in Idris Elba’s project for the people of Bonthe Island. He said he has never travelled to Bonthe Island but promised to do so as soon as the rain is over, showing his active engagement with local initiatives. Amb. Bryan David Hunt assured Speaker Thomas that Idris Elba’s project would earn Sierra Leone the needed visibility.

He concluded by extending thanks and appreciation to Speaker Segepoh Solomon Thomas for hosting him to discuss development for Sierra Leone. He assured me that he would be in close contact with Speaker Segepoh Solomon Thomas.

The Rt. Hon. Speaker of the Sixth Parliament, Hon. Segepoh Solomon Thomas, expressed delight at the courtesy call made by the American Ambassador. He reassured the Ambassador that the House of Parliament would continue to enact progressive laws under his leadership.

The Speaker, emphasizing the potential economic benefits, called on the American Ambassador to lend his support to Idriss Elba’s project for Bonthe. He noted that such a project would be a significant economic boost for Bonthe District and Sierra Leone as a whole.

The Speaker also informed the U.S. ambassador that the Cabinet had approved the project and it would soon be tabled in Parliament for ratification. He highlighted that the project is expected to provide uninterrupted electricity to the entire island, a crucial development for the region.
