A major step towards strengthening medical cooperation between China and Sierra Leone was recently taken when a Chinese hospital signed a contract with the Sierra Leone-China Friendship Hospital. The partnership aims to improve medical assistance and collaboration between the two countries. It was formalised in Jui, a town near Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone.

The agreement was signed by the Third Xiangya Hospital of Central South University in Hunan Province, China, and the Sierra Leone-China Friendship Hospital to enhance nursing services. Renowned for its superior medical services, the Chinese hospital has a long history of collaborating with African counterparts and has promised to give the Sierra Leonean hospital more support.

The director of the nursing department at the Chinese hospital, Yan Jin, emphasised the continued cooperation between the two establishments, noting that almost twenty medical personnel have already been sent to Africa. The Third Xiangya Hospital is offering its visiting staff from the Sierra Leone-China Friendship Hospital specialised medical training in exchange for working at the hospital, particularly in areas like managing the special care baby unit.

Sarah Conteh, the president of the Sierra Leone-China Friendship Hospital, acknowledged the challenges the special care baby unit was facing, such as issues with medical staff training and infant feeding. She conveyed her appreciation to the Chinese hospital for its ongoing help and support in improving its medical procedures.

One of the biggest and most complete medical facilities in Sierra Leone is the Sierra Leone-China Friendship Hospital, where the Chinese medical teams are stationed. In addition to signifying a dedication to mutual learning and growth, the collaboration between these two hospitals opens the door for future developments in medical care and expertise in both nations.

China and Sierra Leone stand to gain from each other’s knowledge, resources, and experiences through this cooperative endeavour, which will ultimately enhance the quality of healthcare provided to patients in the area. This collaboration is evidence of the effectiveness of global cooperation in tackling healthcare issues and promoting long-term growth in the medical industry.
