Africell Sierra Leone has reaffirmed its role as a leading corporate partner in national development, after sponsoring more than 165 events across the country in the first half of 2026, benefiting over 30,000 people. The company’s activities cut across education and entertainment, youth empowerment, sports, religion, health and community development, demonstrating a sustained commitment to communities beyond just providing mobile connectivity.
“Our presence in the classrooms, football fields, concert grounds, religious gatherings, health campaigns and national events is a testament to almost two decades of unwavering investment in the community,” said Nancy Lucia Joseph Turay. “Our focus is to connect people with technology, but it’s also to connect them with opportunities that can change their lives,” said Madam Nancy. He said: “We are investing in education, entertainment and youth empowerment so that we can develop the next generation of Sierra Leoneans.”
Turay said the highest number of events sponsored by Africell in the first half of the year fell in the categories of education, entertainment and youth empowerment. The company deliberately focuses on these areas due to their critical influence in shaping the future of the youth and creating sustainable opportunities for national development. Africell works with schools, artists, youth organisations and sports institutions to nurture talent, promote social cohesion and extend access to development opportunities.
“It’s not just brand awareness for the company’s sponsorship strategy,” Turay said. “Sponsorship for Africell is the fastest way to give back to the people who have been behind the company since its inception in Sierra Leone. “Our goal in all partnerships is to create a meaningful social impact, inspire innovation, promote talent and support initiatives that improve the lives of Sierra Leoneans,” she said.
“Africell has been a key part of community investment in its corporate philosophy since 2006 and has maintained a steady level of sponsorship activity,” Turay said. The company’s sponsorship portfolio is intentionally broad to have a broad national reach. The approach enables Africell to support initiatives that impact diverse segments of society, while strengthening links with institutions, communities and development stakeholders across the country.
Africell’s activities in the reporting period went beyond entertainment and youth programs to include religious events, health campaigns, and collaboration with government-led initiatives, thus enhancing its presence in different aspects of civic life. The company has sponsored sports events and talent development initiatives, helping to develop local sports ecosystems and create opportunities for emerging athletes.
The recent activities of the company are a reminder that social development for companies can be much more than just providing commercial services. Africell Sierra Leone’s desire to invest in people and communities is a long-term vision of corporate responsibility that seeks to use sponsorship as a tool to empower and help the country move forward.
Africell has sponsored over 165 events in just six months and continues to prove that its contribution to Sierra Leone goes far beyond the network, helping to create opportunities, empowering communities and supporting the country’s social and economic development.
